Mission

The mission of Olgoonik Corporation is to engage in profitable business activities that will enable the corporation to provide training and employment opportunities for its shareholders while protecting the land and maintaining Inupiat culture, traditions, and values.

Corporate History

The corporation was formed in 1973 by the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act and exists within the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation’s geographic region. The corporation is based in the village Wainwright on Alaska’s North Slope. This modern community of more than 500 people is the third largest within the North Slope Borough.

In 1999, the corporation formed a new holding company, Olgoonik Development, LLC. Since then, the corporation's growing number of successful subsidiaries have assembled a record of proven performance in the areas of construction management, facility operation support services, design/build services, logistics support, environmental services and technical security. Olgoonik Development has overall management responsibility for all of the subsidiaries.

Location

Located along a wave-eroded coastal bluff overlooking the Arctic Ocean, Wainwright, one of the oldest North Slope villages, is 180 air miles north of the Arctic Circle and 72 miles southwest of Barrow, Alaska.

Air travel provides the only year-round access. From mid-July through September, when the Arctic Ocean is free of ice, transportation by sea is possible. An alternate and popular mode of transportation during the winter months is by snowmachine.
