Olgoonik Corporation Video: On Common Ground

Increasing development and changes in climate make this an eventful period in Arctic history. The Corporation produced a video that includes interviews with Olgoonik Iñupiat leaders, employees, and Wainwright shareholders as all seek to balance the need for local economic growth with the protection of natural resources and subsistence traditions. The video reflects the common ground between Wainwright and its village corporation.

Olgoonik Corporation Video: On Common Ground

Thank you to the community members who could make it out to the video release in Wainwright on Monday, April 18!

Note: The tower you will see in the video is what remains of an abandoned government radar station located just a few miles from the village. The Corporation’s purchase of the station’s 1,500 acres is complete. The property will be integrated into our land management policies and may also be developed to bring business and job opportunities closer to Wainwright. The distance between the old radar site and the village would help shield the community from disruptive industrial impact.
